Some of the steps that have to be followed in case of an mrsa infection outbreak is: 1. Culturing the patients and the patient care personnel: In case of an MRSA outbreak, all patients who are present in units where there have been reports of the mrsa infection should be cultured. A patient care personnel needs to be cultured if the outbreak is supposed to have been caused by the patient care personnel. 2. Cohorting: Patients who have been diagnosed with mrsa infection should be kept physically isolated from other patients and there should be dedicated staff to take care of such patients. The staff should follow good hygiene practices like cleaning their hands thoroughly after every checkup and before moving to common areas where other patients are present. In case a patient has MRSA pneumonia then it is advisable for them not to be in contact with other unaffected persons as it is a respiratory disease which can spread easily. In case there is the culture test shows negative results after treatment for two consecutive 24 hours test, then the patient can be released from the isolated ward to the general ward. 3. Decolonization: It is recommended only in case of an mrsa infection outbreak and is not advisable on a routine basis.
